"Million Years ago" is a song by English singer/songwriter Adele. It was written by her and produced by Greg Kurstin.
Adele is a well known worldwide artist, whose vocal range is really shown in this single off her "25" album. This was written and inspired by an event years into her life as talented artist. One day, she was being driven past Brockwell Park which is a popular park in South London where she grew up. Passing this park really got her in her feelings and caused her to break down and cry because seeing it caused her to reflect to the days in her youth when she used to spend countless hours sitting down in that particular park with her friends and play her guitar, showing them her talent years before she received her fame and wealth. Seeing that park reminded her of how much she missed that time frame in her life when she was a youth, living so care-free, and did not have to have the burdens of a celebrity on her shoulders.
The emotional toll of her life as a celebrity can be heard in this song when she says "I wish I could live a little more, Look up to the sky not just the floor." This is because in today's time of the social media era, fame seems to be the thing many people in our society thirst for. Adele expresses that in her experience, the cameras, and life in the limelight has forced her back into her shell; literally by causing her to bow her head down when walking in public when paparazzi try and harass her, and also figuratively when she is dealing with the natural feelings of feeling inadequate as a human being which causes her to bow her head and stare to the floor feeling submissive to life.
