A Triple Threat Single

Alicia Premdas

Have you heard this song? In November 2018, singer, songwriter, and record producer, Mark Ronson came out with "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart." The song features Miley Cyrus on vocals and blends her Tennessee roots with a modern rhythm, creating a heart-breaking, yet danceable tune, weird right? The song is said to be a combination of country, disco, and pop. The country element of the song was depicted when Ronson told BBC news, "It wasn't an intentional thing. I heard the drawl in her voice and the twang when I saw her live on SNL. My jaw dropped and I became super fixated about being able to work with her." Ronson also clarified, "But we weren’t trying to make a Western song. I think with Miley, just the way she wrote the verses and the way the melody came out, came naturally" (Mizoguchi, 2018). To wrap up this one of a kind song, Ronson added electronically produced sounds and a hypnotic rhythm - typically heard in disco music. When put together, the country vocals and disco beat fuses together to form a unique musical composition, making this song a complete hit.
